These two photos illustrate the problem of what to include or more importantly what to exclude from your picture. In the top photo, I have already excluded a lot of distracting clutter to come up with this composition. I have also tried to provide a visual balance by using the dome on the right and the bell tower on the left.

In the bottom photo I have removed all the other subjects that were present in the top photo, except the bell tower. Now what happens, is that you notice more detail in the bell tower. Simply this is because there is nothing else in that photo that can distract you.

This is why it is so crucial that you realize what it is that is important to you in the scene before you make your photograph.
