Last month, something happened to this blog site while I was away in Scotland….it totally disappeared. Thanks to everyone who got in touch with me to let me know that something was desperately wrong. There was some weird message about a missing wp-config.php file. I honestly had no idea what happened to it or more importantly even how to fix it. I posted a call for “HELP” on my Facebook page and within hours I had several offers of help and advice on how to get everything back up and running. The good news was that it was going to be an easy fix, I just needed the database name, database username and database password all of which were back in Ottawa. So while I had intended to post some photos from the workshop in Scotland and also some from my assignment in England, it just wasn’t possible. I’ll make up for that with the next several posts!!!

Missing
Thursday, October 4th, 2012Back From Greece
Monday, May 21st, 2012On Friday morning we left the idyllic Greek island of Santorini to return back home to Canada. We were in Ottawa by late Saturday afternoon and I was already looking forward to returning to Greece.
We had just finished the 2 week long Greece Workshop with an incredible group of photographers, some of who were “old” friends and the others who are now friends. Lots of great memories and photos! Here are few:
Santorini Stairs
Wednesday, May 16th, 2012Tomorrow is our last day on the Island of Santorini and also of our Greece workshop. I had promised to post some of the photos from this trip (for those of you who couldn’t go with us this year), so here are a few teasers. It has been an incredible couple of weeks with an amazing group of photographers, hate to see it end.
Santorini Greece
Tuesday, May 15th, 2012Here and There
Monday, April 23rd, 2012I haven’t had much time recently to post any photos, thoughts or articles to the blog for a while. That’s not going to change very much for the next month. This week I am off to London, Ontario to give a presentation to the London Camera Club as well as a 2 day workshop and the following week I’ll be leaving for Greece for the workshop there.
I have been posting some photos on my two Facebook pages HERE and HERE. If you haven’t already, add me as a friend or “LIKE” my Fan page. If you are not on Facebook, here are a couple of the photos that I have recently posted to those pages.
Eiffel Tower
Tuesday, February 14th, 2012Seems as though lately I have an obsession with the Eiffel Tower….whether I am in Paris or Las Vegas.
Death Valley – Las Vegas
Wednesday, February 8th, 2012We have just returned back home from a trip to Las Vegas and Death Valley. The purpose of the trip was two-fold; to see Garth Brooks in Vegas and to photograph and scout out Death Valley for a possible future workshop location. Oh yes I guess there was a third reason, to escape Ottawa’s winter for a while!
I can’t believe that I had never visited Death Valley before this. Especially considering that this is the largest national park in the lower 48 states and that I have also probably been to every other area around there. Some how over the years I missed this “Photographers Paradise” of desolate, and stunningly beautiful landscapes!
Here are some of the photos that I took on our first day.
Pre-dawn at Zabriskie Point
2-stop Graduated Neutral Density Filter (soft step)
Artist’s Drive
Mesquite Sand Dunes
As a side note, this was my first trip (wheels up) with the Tamrac Evolution 8 Backpack. In our review of the bag Roxann had mentioned that the bag stands up, it doesn’t flop over. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but it did when I was standing in the middle of all of that sand in the desert and wanted to put the backpack down…it made sense!
At the end of this trip, we decided that we just had to add Death Valley to our future workshop schedule. The diversity of the scenery, as well as some of the most beautiful and unique photographic vistas imaginable are just waiting for us!
Pot of Flowers
Thursday, January 19th, 2012
I’ve heard that there is a the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. In Santorini there is a pot of flowers at the top of the stairs!

Going to Death Valley and Las Vegas in a couple of weeks. Wish I could tell you about it. But you know “What happens in Vegas……”
Office Christmas Party
Thursday, December 8th, 2011
If you called our office earlier this week, you didn’t hear – “It’s a great day at Garry Black Photography!” Not because it wasn’t a great day, it definitely was, but the entire staff at GBP was away for our office Christmas party in Syracuse, NY. I also managed to squeeze in some shots of the Ice Rink and Christmas Tree at Clinton Square (another working holiday)
On Wednesday night we saw Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons at the Turning Stone Resort and Casino. I have to tell you that I was pretty amazed and impressed with the show and Frankie Valli!
If you call the office tomorrow you still probably won’t hear “It’s a great day at Garry Black Photography” But as soon as I get my own TV reality show, you will! If you watch Jeff Lewis on “Flipping Out” all of this will make sense to you.
