Christmas in NYC

It wasn’t a white Christmas in New York City this year, in fact on average there’s only a 14% chance that it will be. But even without snow we had a great time.  One of the events that we attended was the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. It’s probably the only show in NYC that you’re allowed to photograph.

Rockefeller Center Rink and Christmas Tree. On Christmas Eve this place was packed with as many people as there are in Times Square on New Year’s Eve.

Hey Garry, I really enjoy your work! I’ve noticed that you’ve photographed a couple of concerts, I was wondering can you sell those photos and do you need releases?

    Hi Richard,

Thanks for checking out my blog. I didn’t take the concert photos with the main purpose of selling them. It’s more along the lines that I just love taking pictures, and this provided an opportunity to try something photographically different. I found it interesting to see the results created with all the different stage lighting. As photographers, we know that it is all about the lighting of a subject, whether it’s a model, sand dune or a concert that we’re photographing.

As for releases, you would need to get releases from all of the performers as well as the management/producers and the event location. All of that would be pretty much next to impossible, especially for stock. They could be used for editorial usage as long as there isn’t a copyright on some part of the show which is in your photo.
