It’s Been Awhile

Tuesday, September 24th, 2013

In fact it’s been a LONG time since I have posted anything here.  I have been extremely busy with work – photo shoots, workshops and editing/processing photos. So unfortunately I haven’t had a spare minute to post anything here. I do however do post many of my pictures on my Facebook Page and Garry Black Photography Facebook Page, please add me or “Like” my page if you haven’t already.

Here are two images from recent shoots, one in Ottawa and the other in Namibia, Africa. Somehow they seem rather similar to me.

For the Africa trip I used the new SIGMA Sport 120-300 mm F2.8 DG HSM OS lens. I used it with a Canon 7D which has a 1.6x cropped sensor, which made the lens effectively a 192-480 mm which was incredible. I had bought the 7D especially for this trip and to use with this lens. Once I have the opportunity to process some more of the images from this trip (and some time) I will post more images taken with the lens and a review of it.  But I can tell you right now – I loved using this lens!

Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado

Sunday, February 10th, 2013

When you think about the landscape of Colorado, sand dunes isn’t one of the first things that comes to mind. I have photographed many deserts and sand dunes around the world but what makes this one unique is spectacular mountain scenery surrounding the dunes, they are the tallest sand dunes in North America.

Studio Shoot with Gary Fong Lightsphere

After my success in using the Gary Fong Lightsphere on outdoor shoots, I decided to give it a try in the studio. I was shooting with the flash off camera, holding it high above my head in my my left hand and directed towards Virginie with the white dome in place. The effect it creates is very similar to a beauty dish. I like it!!!!

Back From Greece

Monday, May 21st, 2012

On Friday morning we left the idyllic Greek island of  Santorini to return back home to Canada. We were in Ottawa by late Saturday afternoon and I was already looking forward to returning to Greece.

We had just finished the 2 week long  Greece Workshop with an incredible group of photographers, some of who were “old” friends and the others who are now friends.  Lots of great memories and photos! Here are few:

Santorini Stairs

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Tomorrow is our last day on the Island of Santorini and also of our Greece workshop. I had promised to post some of the photos from this trip (for those of you who couldn’t go with us this year), so here are a few teasers. It has been an incredible couple of weeks with an amazing group of photographers, hate to see it end.

Seems as though lately I have an obsession with the Eiffel Tower….whether I am in Paris or Las Vegas.

On the news they were calling yesterday’s snow storm “Winter Wallup”. I might have called it Winter Wonderland! This is a Lilac bush in my backyard. The shutter speed was 1/100 sec which was slow enough to capture the streaks of the falling snow.
